Thawing the Freeze: Meeting Fear With Pure Mind, Jesus, and Self-Love

When old memories surface during rest or meditation, the body often tightens. The breath becomes shallow or almost unavailable, the face contracts, and a deep sense of immobility can appear. This is not failure. It is the nervous system’s freeze response trying to keep you safe.

This page offers a gentle way to meet that freeze – using Pure Mind (spacious loving awareness), the presence of Jesus, and the simple practice of Self-Love.

When Freeze Comes

You may notice:

  • Tightness in the face, jaw, or throat
  • Shallow or almost blocked breathing
  • A sense of being stuck, unable to move or respond
  • Old memories rising that feel too big or overwhelming

These are signs of the dorsal vagal freeze response – an automatic survival pattern that formed long ago to protect you. Instead of fighting it, we will learn to notice it, name it, and hold it in Love.

Pocket Practice: When Freeze Comes

Front phrase:

“May this fear be held in Love.”

Back steps:

  1. Notice: “There is fear here.”
  2. Feel: Toes → legs → belly → heart.
  3. Allow: “My system is protecting me.”
  4. Soften: “May this tightening be welcomed.”
  5. Wait: Breath returns when it’s ready.
  6. Rest: “Nothing has to change. I am here.”

15–20 Minute Guided Meditation (Overview)

This longer meditation invites you to:

  • Ground in the body (toes, legs, belly, heart)
  • Rest in Pure Mind – the spacious field that can hold everything
  • Invite Jesus to be with you and with the younger part that learned to freeze
  • Name the experience gently: “There is fear here. My system is protecting me.”
  • Let the breath return in its own time: “May my breath return when it’s ready.”
  • Allow all of it to rest in Love: “May this moment belong in Love.”

You can record or listen to this practice using the full script and return to it whenever freeze, tightness, or breath-contraction appears.

7-Day Pure Mind + Jesus Practice

This simple 7-day journey gradually teaches your nervous system that it is safer now than it was then. Each day is 10–20 minutes.

Day 1 – Awareness Without Judgment

Practice noticing freeze and fear gently: “There is fear here.” “May this moment be held in Love.” Invite Pure Mind and Jesus to sit beside the experience.

Day 2 – Safety Through the Body

Ground deeply in the feet and legs. Place a hand on the heart: “My system is protecting me.” “Jesus, be with this young part.” Let Pure Mind widen the space around the contraction.

Day 3 – Allowing Without Pressure

Let the breath be natural. When memories arise, say: “May this fear belong in Love.” “May my breath return when it’s ready.”

Day 4 – Meeting the Breath Tightening

Feel the edges of the breath: ribs, belly, chest. “May my breath come in its time.” “Jesus, stay with me here.”

Day 5 – Embracing the Younger Self

See or sense the younger you who survived by freezing. “You’re safe now.” “Jesus, hold this child with me.” Let Pure Mind hold you both.

Day 6 – Resting Everything in Love

Imagine the whole experience resting in a bowl of gentle Light. “May this moment belong fully in Love.” “Jesus, let Your peace surround this fear.”

Day 7 – Integration

Ground again, welcome what arises, and affirm: “May all parts of me be held in Love.” “Nothing has to change. I am here.” Let your breath return in its own rhythm.
